In 1995 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, and twice won the Whitbread Book of the Year, for \u003ci\u003eThe Spirit Level\u003ci\u003e (1996) and \u003ci\u003eBeowulf\u003ci\u003e (1999). \u003ci\u003eStepping Stones\u003ci\u003e, a book of interviews conducted by Dennis O'Driscoll, appeared in 2008; \u003ci\u003eHuman Chain\u003ci\u003e, his last volume of poems, was awarded the 2010 Forward Prize for Best Collection.
