Blues greats like Big Joe Williams, Brownie McGhee, McKinley Morganfield, John Lee Hooker, and Big Bill Broonzy alongside lesser know pickers like William Brown, Alabama Slim, Manny Nichols, a. m. o. Bear Family's second volume in this series commences at just about the time that amplification was beginning to permanently alter the definition of blues guitar. Texan T-Bone Walker was at the vanguard of the new electrified approach. He inspired an army of daring young disciples who picked out dazzling single-string solos that fit right into the urban jump blues phenomenon sweeping the country during the immediate postwar era. Yet there was still a market for downhome acoustic blues guitar. Indie firms introduced a new batch of guitarists who stubbornly refused to amplify their instruments. Most of them were solidly rooted in pre-war tradition. A few such as Nat Terry, Willie Lane, Julius King, and Johnny Beck made one or two now-prized 78s and were never heard from again. This collection includes splendid selections by a few of the giants from the pre-war days that we heard from last time-Big Bill Broonzy, Blind Willie McTell, Josh White, Big Joe Williams-who were still actively creating and recording classic sides, but it's largely devoted to the new crop of acoustic blues guitarists

Tracklist:

Crawlin' King Snake Bywilliams Joe

Catfish Blues By Petway Robert

Step It Up and Go No 2 By Blind Boy Fuller #2 (Brownie McGhee)

Cross Cut Saw Blues By Hollins Tony

Black Spider Blues By Lockwood Robert

I Be's Troubled By Morganfield McKinley

If I Get Lucky By Crudup Arthur'big Boy'

Unfinished Business By Moss Buddy

Mississippi Blues By Brown William

Water Coast Blues By Edwards David

Stick with Me By Brown Gabriel

Evil-Hearted Woman Blues By Shines Johnny

Katie Mae Blues By 'Lightnin' Hopkins

Evil Hearted Man By White Josh

Ora-Nelle Blues By Brown Othum

Money Taking Woman By Young Johnny

Blood Red River Blues By Little Boy Fuller (Rich Trice)

Sweet Woman Blues By Back Porch Boys the

Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee By McGhee Stick

Single Man Blues By Sims Frankie Lee

Douglas K C By Mercury Boogie

The Blues Is Killing Me By Fulson Lowell

Boar Hog Blues By Alabama Slim (Ralph Willis)

Ugly Woman Blues By Cotton Sylvester

Applejack Boogie By Pinetop Slim

Prowlin' Ground Hog By Lane Willie

Ride to a Funeral in a V8 By Pickett Dan

Paper Wooden Daddy McMillan Dennis

Walking Talking Blues Nichols Manny

You've Got to Lay Down Mama Beck Johnny (The Blind Boy)

Model T Boogie Tisdom James

Dallas Be-Bop Blues Houston Lawyer

You're Gonna Weep and Moan Little David (David Wylie)

Talkin' to You Mama Pig 'N' Whistle Band (Blind Willie McTell)

Ticket Agent Blues Jackson Lil' Son

1951 Blues Huff Luther

Eyesight to the Blind Larks the

January 11 1949 Blues Stoneham Luther

They Call Me Talking Boy Stewart William'talking Boy'

Take It Easy Baby Terry Nathaniel

Down at the Depot Lee John

If You See My Lover King Julius

Don't Be Funny Baby!
