To avoid future crashes, data is required about past accidents, to analyse the various causes and develop methods to avoid them going forward. Besides traditional accident records, there are many other data sources that can complement or replace the accident records. Because of obvious limitations of available accident data, alternative data sources gain importance. The findings can help improve affected streets and intersections, Intelligent Traffic Systems, and optimize automated features in vehicles.

About the Author
Laureshyn, Aliaksei: -
Aliaksei Laureshyn is an associate professor in traffic safety at Lund University, Sweden.
