I.:\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e - C.I. Aki, the son of a Nigerian economist and a Nigerian-Jamaican horticulturalist, is a poet, essayist, filmmaker, and educatorbased in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his B.A. in Rhetoricand Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin and hisMaster's in Theology and Philosophy at Vanderbilt Divinity School. In2012, he published his first short story, \"A Withering Scar, a Thin Pin-Striped Suit, and 1,000 Judgments,\" in 34th Parallel Magazine. In 2014, he premiered his short film, The Runner, in the Capital City Black FilmFestival. In 2015, he was a recipient of Vanderbilt's Imagination Grantto carry out research in Spain for an on-going documentary on flamencohe is producing. He writes against the racialized misinterpretationof the achievement gap by education reform, and he currently leads alanguage arts program at an independent school in Nashville.
