He worked as drama director at the BBC, and between 1960 and 1990, he directed nearly a hundred television plays. He translated and directed for BBC Television the Theban plays of Sophocles - \u003ci\u003eOedipus the King\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eAntigone\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eOedipus\u003c\/i\u003e \u003ci\u003eat Colonus\u003c\/i\u003e. He followed this with translations of three Euripides war plays - \u003ci\u003eIphigenia at Aulis\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eThe Women of Troy\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eHelen\u003c\/i\u003e. He was co-director of Compass Theatre for while and set up First Writes Radio with Ellen Dryden.
