He was Organising Secretary for the Welsh Language Petition in 1938, and joined the staff of the Law Department at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1965. He held a personal chair in Legal History and Welsh Law from 1975 until his retirement. As an experienced professional lawyer, his contribution to the study of Welsh Medieval Law was especially valuable. He also wrote in Welsh on a variety of literary and other subjects.
