In discussions with the plenary speakers and other presenters, it became apparent that a book focusing on how \u003ci\u003eThe Hobbit\u003c\/i\u003e influenced the subsequent development of Tolkien's \u003ci\u003elegendarium\u003c\/i\u003e was sorely needed.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e This collection of 15 previously unpublished essays fills that need.
