These residues accumulate at the throat of the barrel where rifling begins, sizing bullets as they pass and reducing accuracy by .002 to .003 inches. Without proper cleaning, these residues chemically bond and iron into a compound harder than steel, permanently damaging accuracy.

Semi-automatic shotguns need regular cleaning to prevent jamming and misfiring. Pistols and standard .22 caliber rifles require maintenance after every 100 shots due to lower bullet velocities. The .17 HMR, .17 Mach 2, and .22 Magnum rim fire rifles need more frequent cleaning because their copper jacket bullets travel at high velocities.

Step-by-Step Cleaning Instructions

This manual covers correct cleaning procedures for:

Center fire rifles and rim fire rifles

Bolt actions and lever actions

Over/under and semi-automatic firearms

Assault rifles and revolvers

Pistols and shotguns

Black powder rifles

According to gunsmiths, improper cleaning techniques have ruined as many firearms as neglecting cleaning entirely.
