Watching this made us feel the need to make a book about the ones that still resist. Our shared passion for these houses and their unrepeatable identity convinced us that this could be a project where we could work together again, photographing the properties that we still managed to find so that at least their visual memory didn't get lost. \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eWe want this book to pay homage to a memory, a Portuguese savoir-faire and taste that is disappearing with the massification of design, objects and furniture. After completing her architecture degree, including a senior year in Rome in 2005, she returned to Portugal to collaborate with her father. During this period, she worked on various projects while developing her own practice, focusing on restaurants and private residences.\u2028In 2011, Ana co-founded the AnahoryAlmeida Studio with Felipa Almeida. Over nine years, they designed numerous hospitality interior architecture projects, including restaurants for Chef José Avillez and the Hotel São Lourenço do Barrocal. Their work emphasized Portuguese materials and involved collaborations with local artists and artisans. In 2020, they decided to close the studio to pursue individual ambitions.\u2028Since then, Ana has focused on Estúdio Lisboa, a project she previously founded with her husband, José António Uva, where she leads the interior design team. Estúdio Lisboa develops hospitality projects in Portugal, offering services from conception and architecture to design and operations management. Each project highlights a sense of place, working with Portuguese materials and craft techniques in collaboration with local artisans, resulting in timeless and simple designs.\u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eAlmeida, Felipa:\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e - \u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eFelipa Almeida \u003c\/b\u003e( b. 1979) is a curator and art director specializing in the intersection of art, crafts, and Portugal's material culture and traditions. With degrees in Art History and Curatorial Studies, Felipa's work celebrates and preserves Portuguese heritage.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eReturning to Portugal in 2006, she joined the architect Ana Anahory to open the architecture and interior design studio AnahoryAlmeida (20011-2020) which focused on working with Portuguese materials. It was during this defining period that Felipa started collaborating closely with artists and craftspeople whose work became part of the spaces developed in the studio.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAnahoryAlmeida Studio designed numerous hospitality and interior architecture projects including São Lourenço do Barrocal Hotel, Quinta das Murças House, and chef José Avillez's restaurants in Lisbon.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn 2020 she established a creative studio in Lisbonwhere she collaborates with artists and artisans. She curates exhibitions, bespoke projects and collections, and promotes themed pop-ups challenging artists to create unique pieces on a specific theme.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSince 2024 she edits and publishes books in collaboration with Estudio Alhures about Portuguese crafts and private folk art collections.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eSfat, Birgit:\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e - \u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eBirgit Sfat \u003c\/b\u003e(b. 1974), is a photographer and creative consultant based in Lisbon. Her passion for photography and for Portugal developed naturally from her parents, who both were photographers. She spent much of the early 1990s each year at the family home near Tavira.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAfter studying economics, Birgit worked as a strategist in Munich, helping shape collections, communication, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eand brand identity for fashion labels before moving to San Francisco with her husband and daughter. There, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eshe founded Over the Ocean, which reflected her interest in thoughtful design, storytelling, and the work of small European makers. In 2019, her family relocated to Portugal permanently and settled in Lisbon.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBirgit's work explores spaces, objects, and atmospheres--often at the intersection of personal memory and cultural heritage. With a clear, intuitive eye, she seeks out the quiet stories within interiors, capturing textures, light, and details that convey a sense of presence and place. Her photography is rooted in observation and simplicity, with a focus on interiors, travel, and portraiture.
