In 1980, she became the founding executive director of Denton County Friends of the Family, Texas, providing services to sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and their children. During her career, she served on the board of the Texas Council on Family Violence, conducted research and evaluation studies on gender-based violence, and taught university courses on domestic violence.
