More\r\nfamiliar are the Gregorian-inspired Suite\r\nmedievale, the Triptyque, and the Triptyque\r\nGrégorien, whose flowing melodies share a\r\nspirit of Catholic mysticism with briefer\r\nmeditations such as the Prière des Mages,\r\nthe Incantation pour un Jour Saint and the\r\nPalm-Sunday voluntary Dominica in Palmis.\r\nAs a collection of character pieces, Mosaique\r\nshows off Langlais's versatility, by turns\r\nsolemn and joyful, songful and stormy. This\r\nsheer variety of form alone makes him stand\r\nout among French 20th-century composers\r\nfor the organ. Throughout his life, Langlais\r\nwrote in many different styles and, true to his ideal,\r\nstill retained the ability to surprise.\r\nThis major project has been undertaken jointly by\r\nthe Italian organists Giorgio Benati, Fausto Caporali\r\nand Alessandro Perin. Benati is a former student of\r\nLanglais, and Caporali has a string of successful\r\nFrench organ recordings to his credit. They have\r\nmade these new recordings on Italian instruments,\r\nlending Langlais an 'Italian accent' while faithfully\r\nobserving his expressive and registration markings in\r\nhis scores.
