The provisioning and maintenance of these garrisons frequently imposed heavy burdens on local civilian populations, who were compelled to supply taxes, goods, and labour.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGarrison troops also played a dynamic role in field operations--marching out to reinforce other forces before returning to their strongholds for protection. Dr Abram's interest in the British Civil Wars and seventeenth-century conflicts more generally, has led to the publication of five monographs by Helion \u0026amp; Co., in addition to various journal articles and chapters in edited collections.
