In the ways that Afro-descendants interacted with the Spanish colonial school system and its \u003cbr\u003eauthorities, and in the separate schools they created, they were \u003cbr\u003eresisting the hardening racial boundaries that characterized Cuban life \u003cbr\u003eand developing alternative visions of possible societies, nations, and \u003cbr\u003efutures.
