A woman seeking help to flee an abusive situation can turn to secular society to direct her to shelters, lawyers, and finances to relieve her fears of finding a place for herself and her children. Churches are aware of domestic violence issues, but many pastors, leaders, and laypersons are not properly trained to minister to victims seeking guidance and support. The purpose for writing this book is to reveal the churches, organizations, and individuals that view domestic violence as an important issue in today's society. They are not only providing victims of abuse with information and resources, but also offer emotional and spiritual support. Dr. Peach Payne holds a B.A. degree from Purdue University, Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College, and a Doctorate of Ministry and Missions degree from University of Family Bible, Institute, College, and Seminary in Maryland. She was licensed to the work of the Counseling Ministry and ordained as a Christian Educational Specialist. Dr. Payne is also a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor and a Professional Clinical member of the National Christian Counselors Association (NCCA) in Sarasota, Florida. Enhancing existing research with the shared wisdom of the nation's prevention community, Weisz and Black describe program goals and content, recruitment strategies, membership, structure, and community involvement in practitioners' own words. Their comprehensive approach reveals the core techniques that should be a part of any successful prevention program, including theoretical consistency, which contributes to sound content development, and peer education and youth leadership, which empower participants and keep programs relevant.

Weisz and Black show that multisession programs are most useful in preventing violence and assault, because they enable participants to learn new behaviors and change entrenched attitudes. Combining single- and mixed-gender sessions, as well as steering discussions away from the assignment of blame, also yield positive results. The authors demonstrate that productive education remains sensitive to differences in culture and sexual orientation and includes experiential exercises and role-playing. Manuals help in guiding educators and improving evaluation, but they should also allow adolescents to direct the discussion. Good programs regularly address teachers and parents. J. Simpson? Why women were no more supportive of the Equal Rights Amendment than men? Why women are no more likely than men to support a female political candidate? Why women are no more likely than men to embrace feminism--a movement by, about, and for women? Why some women stay with men who abuse them? Loving to Survive addresses just these issues and poses a surprising answer. Likening women's situation to that of hostages, Dee L. R. Graham and her co- authors argue that women bond with men and adopt men's perspective in an effort to escape the threat of men's violence against them.

Dee Graham's announcement, in 1991, of her research on male-female bonding was immediately followed by a national firestorm of media interest. Her startling and provocative conclusion was covered in dozens of national newspapers and heatedly debated. In Loving to Survive, Graham provides us with a complete account of her remarkable insights into relationships between men and women.

In 1973, three women and one man were held hostage in one of the largest banks in Stockholm by two ex-convicts. These two men threatened their lives, but also showed them kindness. Over the course of the long ordeal, the hostages came to identify with their captors, developing an emotional bond with them. They began to perceive the police, their prospective liberators, as their enemies, and their captors as their friends, as a source of security. This seemingly bizarre reaction to captivity, in which the hostages and captors mutually bond to one another, has been documented in other cases as well, and has become widely known as Stockholm Syndrome.

The authors of this book take this syndrome as their starting point to develop a new way of looking at male-female relationships. Loving to Survive considers men's violence against women as crucial to understanding women's current psychology. Men's violence creates ever-present, and therefore often unrecognized, terror in women. This terror is often experienced as a fear for any woman of rape by any man or as a fear of making any man angry. They propose that women's current psychology is actually a psychology of women under conditions of captivitythat is, under conditions of terror caused by male violence against women. Therefore, women's responses to men, and to male violence, resemble hostages' responses to captors.

Loving to Survive explores women's bonding to men as it relates to men's violence against women. It proposes that, like hostages who work to placate their captors lest they kill them, women work to please men, and from this springs women's femininity. Femininity describes a set of behaviors that please men because they communicate a woman's acceptance of her subordinate status. Thus, feminine behaviors are, in essence, survival strategies. Like hostages who bond to their captors, women bond to men in an effort to survive.

This is a book that will forever change the way we look at male-female relationships and women's lives.

About the Author
Graham, Dee L. Refuting the rationales for our lack of attention to the problem and contradicting some commonly held beliefs about sexual abuse, it combines accounts from survivors with input from professionals working with both survivors and abusers.

Part I presents contributions from professionals who discuss aspects of female sexual abuse ranging from impact and treatment issues for victims of childhood sexual abuse by female perpetrators to the paradox of women who sexually abuse children. The second part is devoted to survivors--it presents stories from both men and women, then provides self-help guidelines for both. The book concludes with a valuable section on resources which includes a review of the existing literature on female child molestation as well as a listing of pertinent books and help organizations.

FEMALE SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN also addresses the controversial issue of current statistics that show that female sexual abuse is very rare and the question of whether it is being underreported due to fear from survivors that they will not be believed or supported. Regardless of the true magnitude of this problem, secrecy or denial about any aspect of child abuse must be avoided. With Howard in prison, the only father he knew as a child was Bobby, his mother's pimp, drug dealer, and lover. In 1980, he was placed in his first foster home. While foster care was often horrifying, nothing compared to the daily near-death experiences he survived living in Father Panik Village with Bobby and Debbie. On May 23, 1980 his coerced testimony sent Debbie to prison. Now a grown man, Mr. Love uses his childhood traumas to change lives. Working as a teacher allows him to use the experiences of his life to help children who live in a similar world. His experiences give him a perspective most people do not have and knowledge that cannot be obtained from any textbook. There Is An Urgency explores these experiences in an effort to make others aware that people like him walk among us every day. There Is An Urgency is inimitable in that it juxtaposes Mr. Love's experiences as an adult, working with children in school and juvenile detention settings, with personal accounts of physical and sexual abuse from his childhood. Rachael Maddox bravely shares her own story of statutory rape and recovery, inviting readers into the possibility that their current sex issues, fears, stunted confidence or self-worth troubles, private addictions, private depressions, or impossible-seeming dreams, could in fact be resulting from unresolved sexual trauma. There's a myth that so many women bear the burden of in today's world. The myth is that we're bad for the violations that happen to us, as well as the mess of the aftermath of those abuses. Secret Bad Girl not only dispels this myth, but illuminates exactly how you can transcend it, embodying the aliveness, resilience, and vitality available to you. Secret Bad Girl reads like works by Eve Ensler mixed with Peter Levine and a dash of Andrea Gibson. Stories. Science. Poetry. In each case, a child had an injury whose cause was unknown; it could have been due to an accident, a medical condition, or abuse. Each family ultimately exonerated itself and restored its family life, but still bears scars from the experience that will never disappear. The book tells why and how the child protection system failed these families. This type of crime comes with a cloud of fear that will result in many people rushing to judge you with little or no information about the allegation. It can cause families to be ripped apart, long time friendships to disintegrate and countless others to side against you despite your innocence. You need to take steps to protect yourself and your family as soon as you learn about the allegation. It is highly unlikely everything will simply disappear and you can return to your life as before. Depending on how far your accusers have taken the accusation you may already be farther along in the system then you realize. This book is a candid first-hand account of my experience fighting false allegations of child sexual abuse against me. My goal is to help others who have been falsely accused understand what is ahead of them so they can properly prepare themselves and their families for the legal, emotional and financial challenges that lie ahead. I speak very openly about the emotional toll it took on me and my family, how the system operates and treats the accused and steps you can take to prove your innocence as I did. If you or a loved one has been accused, you are in for a battle for your life and I hope my story will help you understand what is ahead so you can win that battle.

About the Author
The author is your average middle aged person who was going about his normal life when he was blindsided by false allegations of child sexual abuse by the mother of his nephews. The accusations were completely untrue and at first he thought he could talk to the family and try to figure out why they would believe such horrible things. The situation spiraled out of control and the author was forced to get a lawyer after police showed up at his door with a search warrant. He spent the next few years fighting to prove his innocence because so many people had convicted him in their minds based on lies and no evidence. Child Abuse is a very serious crime. Allegations are equally serious as the author came to realize. You could spend the rest of your life in prison because of a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of a child's statements. If you or a loved one has been accused it is critical you start building a defense as soon as possible. Innocent people do go to jail and you do not want to be one of them. The author has written this book and shared his experience going through the process to help others who have false claims of child abuse against them. The lessons he learned the hard way can give you an advantage as you go through the legal system. Reading this book can open your eyes and stress the urgency that you are in the fight of your life. The victims of child sexual abuse are 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 7 boys (World Health Organization). A majority of the offenders are people they know and trust like their family members. Each child has his/her own childhood sexual abuse story and it's a horror that each one have had to live through. There are 7 brief child abuse stories in this book that allows you to take a peek into their world to see what the child experienced, as well as food for thought about that particular experience. In an effort to increase awareness and keep the frequency of sexual abuse and child molestation to a minimum, this book also includes advice from experts and practical tips - some of which might have never crossed your mind, as well as a look into the plight of survivors. The child sexual abuse statistics alone are heartbreaking and unbelievable; things that are hard to fathom, and so many. You'll also find out why mothers who know about it many times do nothing about it and what that does to the child on into adulthood. If you've wondered what child sexual abuse is about - not only the stories - but its prevalence (statistics), psychological and emotional impact, things that can be done to help prevent it, and available resources on a worldwide basis including current phone numbers, support groups and websites, all of that information is contained in this book.Collectively with just a little awareness about that dark world, I feel we can make a difference in protecting the innocence of children/adolescence/teens from molestation and sexual abuse.

About the Author
This is my first book on the matter of child sexual abuse. What inspired me to write about it is the fact that I got tired of hearing about child molestation in the churches and teachers or coaches taking advantage of children and adolescence who look up to them. But when I looked further into the subject matter, I discovered that child sexual abuse was more prevalent "inside" the home which startled me so much that I felt that people really need to know how much this is going on right in their midst. In my opinion, enough isn't being done about it in terms of protection for children and punishment for the perpetrators - family member or not. Sexual abuse is cruel. And when it comes to children, it's outright evil because they can't defend themselves and sometimes they don't even realize that their innocence is being taken away. Although this is just one book, I'm just one person and this is my way of exposing the reality of child sexual abuse to those who maybe don't know much about it such as the impact it has on the life of the victims in so many ways for the rest of their lives. Children are everywhere; so the more "normal" a childhood that boys and girls can have the happier and healthier the world can be.
